Phelan and Pinon Hills are rural unincorporated towns to the west of the 15 freeway. The Mormon Trail
passed through this area as did the Butterfield Stagecoach Route in the 19th century.
Today it is a popular area for construction of custom homes and also for mobile homes. The area is served
almost entirely by dirt roads.
South of Highway 138 is in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains and affords spectacular views over the
Victor Valley and west towards Palmdale. A close up view of the mountains is also available. North of the
highway the views over the valley are less spectacular but this is compensated by magnificent views of the
mountains.
Phelan has a thriving downtown area with a number of stores and gas stations.
